The person who built your Access database left years ago

The person who built your Access database left years ago. The business still runs on it. Nobody’s quite sure how it works.

It’s one of the most common situations we walk into, so it’s been our focus at CDE Systems this week. Three questions come up again and again.

What happens now the developer’s gone?
You don’t have to start again. Here’s how we take it on:

  1. Understand the system.
  2. Keep it running reliably.
  3. Improve what needs improving.
  4. Modernise where it adds value.

Can Access work with SQL Server?
Yes. Move the data into SQL Server and your team keeps the Access screens they already know. You lose the 2GB size limit, it handles lots of users at once far better, and you get proper security and backups.

Can we use it from a browser or phone?
Yes. With the data in SQL Server, a web portal or mobile app can sit alongside the existing system rather than replace it.

Over the next few weeks we’ll share real customer stories, from where each business started to how we’ve supported them since.

Based in Sheffield, we've been building and supporting database systems since 1999. If you've inherited one nobody fully understands, get in touch: cdevps.photonsurge.uk/
