Bolt & Nut Manufacturing: certificates and stock you can trace from goods-in to the job

Bolt & Nut Manufacturing had grown, and its system had grown with it, but too much still depended on people remembering things. We extended the system it already had, so certificates can’t be saved half-finished, and stock is tracked against them from goods-in to the job it went out on.

Client
Bolt & Nut Manufacturing
Sector
Manufacturing & Engineering (precision fasteners and components)
Outcome
Stronger traceability, live job visibility and reports that don’t need chasing
What we do
Certificate controls, stock traceability, barcode tracking, CNC data capture, Crystal Reports and Excel exports, all added to the existing system
Technology
Bespoke system, Crystal Reports, barcode scanning

The situation

Bolt & Nut makes fasteners and precision components at its UK factory. The company had grown steadily, and its software had been extended over the years to keep up.

But much of the day-to-day still relied on memory. Someone chased material certificates, someone checked stock figures by hand, and decisions waited for someone to pull a report. Nothing was broken. It was just slow, and slow has a cost once enough jobs are running.

Certificates and traceability

We started with certificate management. New mandatory fields and stricter checks mean a certificate can’t be saved half-finished. Stock is now tracked against its certificate, so material can be followed from goods-in through to the job it was used on.

That matters most when a customer or an auditor asks about a delivery from two years ago. The answer is now a lookup, not a search.

Around it

Reports. New Crystal Reports cover stock levels, material certification, production and performance. Staff can see past stock positions, track material usage and reconcile stock against the finance figures without anyone writing a query.

The shop floor. Live jobs are visible across the factory, with barcode scanning to cut out re-keying. In the CNC area, the details that used to be filled in later, or not at all, are now captured as the work happens.

Paperwork. Job cards, order acknowledgements and certification records were reworked so the same information reads the same way in every department. Excel exports let anyone dig into a number without raising a request.

What changed

Bolt & Nut can answer questions about its own production faster, and with more confidence in the answer. Traceability is stronger, stock control and audits are easier, and management information is there when it’s needed. There’s noticeably less admin holding it all together.

The system now matches how the factory runs, and it can be extended again as the business grows.
